Congratulations to Outstanding Student Award Winners from the Psychology Department!

Shiara Naicker received the Excellence in Student Employment Award for her work at the Social Justice, Equity, and Inclusion Center (SJEIC), the Center for Community Based Learning (CCBL) and as a staff writer, editor, and Communications Coordinator for Redwood Roots Digital Magazine. Shiara has streamlined many processes for social media outreach and continuously strives for inclusivity.

Chelsea Rios Gomez won the Outstanding Contribution to an Associated Students Program Award for their work at the Womxn’s Resource Center (WRC). Chelsea is a fierce advocate for underrepresented groups and is dedicated to educating others about what they can do to better the world. 

Crane Conso received the Patricia O. McConkey Outstanding Graduate Student Award for their project Uncertainty, Populist Deprivation Rhetoric, and Extremism, supervised by Dr. Amber Gaffney.

Academic Research M.A. student Joseph Pang won the American Psychological Association Division for International Psychology’s student poster contest at the Western Psychological Association’s (WPA) 2022 Conference. The conference theme was Diversity, Equity, and Sustainability, and seven faculty and 37 students authored presentations. Doug Cherry was selected as one of two Outstanding Students of the Year for his overall excellence in academics and community service. As Humboldt’s Student Council Representative for the Western Psychological Association, he advocated for students at the yearly council meeting. He also demonstrated academic leadership as an undergraduate assistant for the Psychology Department and within academic clubs and organizations.
