Speaker: Maria Iturbide, Ph.D.

Bio: Dr. Iturbide received her Ph.D. in Psychology specializing in Developmental Psychology from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. She was a Postdoctoral Research Associate and is a Visiting Research Associate in the Department of Human and Community Development at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is a new faculty member in Humboldt’s Psychology Department where she teaches Human Development and Introduction to Psychological Research Methods. Through her courses she fosters understanding of developmental theory and methods while promoting lifelong learning skills.

Research: Her area of research is focused on understanding factors associated with adolescent well-being. It has developed into examining Latino adolescents’ internalizing and externalizing behavior. She concentrates on ethnic identity development, acculturation, acculturative stress, and their link to adolescent risk behavior and positive development.
