Olivia Ortiz, Undergraduate Psychology Senior is Awarded "Outstanding Undergraduate Research Presentation in Psychology" at SACNAS Confrence 2023
Congratulations McNair Scholar, Olivia Ortiz! Olivia recently transferred to Cal Poly Humboldt in Spring 2023 and is a senior in our undergraduate program. Olivia joined the McNair Scholars Program (a program for low-income and/or underrepresented students who aim to obtain a doctoral degree in STEM-related fields) in February. Over the summer, Olivia conducted an independent research project with Dr. Brandilynn Villarreal and then presented the findings at the national conference, SACNAS (Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science). Her presentation titled: "College Students' Mindfulness and Resilience in Relation to Academic and Psychological Outcomes" awarded her the title "Outstanding Research Participation in Psychology & Social Science". Currently, Olivia is working as a research assistant under Dr. Ethan Gahtan in his Behavioral Neuroscience Lab and under Dr. Mari (Kauyumari) Sanchez in her Cognition Lab. Recently, Olivia was also rewarded the Gardner Assistantship for her work with Dr. Sanchez and will be applying for graduate school this application cycle. Olivia wishes to pursue a doctoral degree in psychology, and is particularly interested in research using cognitive training in conjunction with neuroimaging-guided, non-invasive brain stimulation.
